What makes natural gas motor oil special?
Unlike traditional motor oil, natural gas motor oil is synthesized from natural gas, rather than crude oil. Generally, companies use gas-to-liquid technology to produce a 99.5% pure base oil free of contaminants such as sulphur. As the motor oil is pure and has a superior molecular structure, it offers excellent flow in extreme temperatures, enhanced oxidation stability and keeps engines cleaner for longer. Most companies will also offer two different blends: one for stationary use, such as in power generation or machining, and one for vehicular use, as their needs differ slightly.

What is gas-to-liquid?
Gas-to-liquid refers to a refining process that converts natural gas into synthetic diesel, gasoline, motor oil or lubricants. For Amsoil, our process for making natural gas motor oil involves converting gas into syngas, then using Fischer-Tropsch synthesis to create synthetic motor oil that is perfect for stationary and mobile natural gas engines.
How often do you need to change the oil on a stationary natural gas engine?
How often do you need to change the oil on a stationary natural gas engine?
Generally, you will want to change the oil every 100 to 200 hours of operation for a natural gas stationary engine. If you are not running it that often, you will want to change the oil at least annually. If you are running in harsh or hot conditions, you may want to adjust the interval down to every 50 to 100 hours.
Are your natural gas motor oils low ash?
Yes, both our stationary and vehicular blends are low-ash formulas to minimize deposit formation on valve stems and in the combustion chamber.
