Motor Oil Weights for Snowmobile
Snowmobile motor oils are specific, and our formula is designed to maintain cold-temperature fluidity, deliver outstanding performance in DFI engines, protect against wear, prevent piston ring and exhaust power valve sticking, and, most importantly, perform well in all snowmobiles. We offer our standard 2-stroke injector oil, our Interceptor 2-stroke oil, designed specifically for snowmobiles, and our Dominator Racing Oil, which is great for those competing in snow cross, oval racing, or Snow Bash. For those 4-stroke snow machines, we also offer our 4-Stroke PowerSports Synthetic Motor Oil, which is wet-clutch compatible and delivers quick-start protection, making start-ups in the cold a non-issue.
Cold-temperature fluidity matters more here than in almost any other application. A sled sitting outside overnight in an Ohio winter can face startup temperatures well below freezing, and oil that's too thick to flow quickly on start-up means your engine's most critical components run dry for those first crucial seconds. That's the real advantage synthetic oil has over conventional in a snowmobile specifically: it maintains a usable viscosity at temperatures where conventional oil can thicken to the point of struggling to circulate. If you're running a DFI (direct fuel injection) engine, matching your oil-to-fuel injection ratio to what your engine's computer expects also matters, since DFI systems are calibrated for a specific oil, not just any 2-stroke blend.

Summer storage is where a lot of preventable snowmobile problems actually start. A sled that sits for six or more months with untreated fuel in the tank is vulnerable to gum and varnish buildup as the fuel breaks down, which can clog carburetors or injectors by the time the first snow falls. Running our gasoline stabilizer before you put your sled away for the season is one of the simplest ways to avoid opening up your carburetor come November because of a problem you could have prevented in April. Chain case and gear oil are also worth checking each season, since that lubricant takes a beating from the constant load and temperature swings a chain case experiences over a full winter of riding.

Can I use normal 2-stroke or 4-stroke motor oil for a snowmobile in a pinch?
In a pinch, you can use 2-stroke or 4-stroke motor oil, but limit the miles you travel and swap it out as soon as you can. For instance, if you are in a pinch with a 2-stroke snowmobile, you can use any 2-stroke motor oil, but you will want to get the right motor oil for your machine into it as soon as you can. For most, this will be our Interceptor oil, while if you are racing, our Dominator blend is the right formula for you.
What makes snowmobile motor oils and lubricants different?
Snowmobile synthetic motor oils are designed to withstand freezing temperatures while still meeting the high-performance requirements of these complex machines. Our Interceptor and Dominator motor oils are designed for snowmobiling in Ohio and will provide excellent cold-start properties, burn cleanly, and keep deposits to a minimum, all while maximizing your sled's performance.
Do you offer any special warranties for Snowmobiles?
Yes, as a proud Snowmobile company, we offer our Runs on Freedom Snowmobile Limited Warranty to our users. The warranty covers OEM engines from Polaris, Arctic Cat, BRP, Ski-Doo, and Yamaha that use our Interceptor Synthetic 2-Stroke Oil for 2 years or 5,000 miles (8,000 km), whichever comes first. To take advantage of the free warranty, owners must complete a warranty application to AMSOIL no later than 18 months after taking physical delivery of their snow machine.
Why does cold-weather fluidity matter so much for snowmobile oil?
